
Join us Saturday July 31st for the 8th Annual Tour de Thompson (formerly known as the Ride for Independence). This bicycle tour of the Bristol Hills features scenic views of Canandaigua Lake with beginner, novice and expert courses including a 100 Kilometer ride with 6,800 feet of climbing, a 31 mile ride, or a 15-mile course. Rest stops and a SAG vehicle are included.
The Tour begins and ends at Onanda Park on the west shore of Canandaigua Lake where there will be a post-ride picnic, hiking, fishing and even a jump in the lake. Registration for this annual event begins at 7 am. There is a mass start at 8 am. You may register now online.
Registration includes T-shirts for the first 50 registrants, lakeside post-ride cookout, massages for tired legs, bike numbers, rest stops, SAG, and free parking on the upland side of park.
Proceeds benefit the Rehabilitation Services Aftercare Program, helping people with chronic disease maintain their level of function by continuing services after insurance benefits have ended or they have reached a maintenance level in their therapy.

All rides: mass start at 8:00 am but individual riders can start anytime between 8:00am and 10:00am.

Premier Route - Metric Century (62.5 miles) - For experienced cyclists who want a challenging ride with spectacular views. Over 6,800 feet of elevation gain!
Continued for 2010 -Gannett Hill bypass option: Eliminate the 50+ mph descent as well as 4.2 miles total distance and 1000 ft of climbing

Intermediate Route (31 miles) - With 2800 feet of climbing in just 30 miles, this is a challenging shorter alternative with many of the same great views that are on the longer ride.

Shortest Route (15 miles)- For less experienced riders. This route has some challenging hill climbing (1350 feet) but the elevation change is more gradual than on the other two routes. This ride rewards you with an exhilarating 1.5 mile descent at the finish. There are no sag stops on this ride.

Recommended gearing is a triple chain ring for all routes.

Directions to Onanda Park:
- From the Thruway: Exit 44. You will be on Rte 332 South. Take this into the City of Canandaigua (about 15 minutes). Rte 332 becomes Main St. Stay on Main St. through the business district (over the railroad tracks, and down the hill). Look for hospital signs and Parrish Street. Parrish Street is a right hand turn off Main Street. Take Parrish Street to the light. Make a left onto West Lake Rd. The Park is 7 miles down West Lake Rd. Free parking is on the right hand side, up the hill in the "uplands section" of the park. Lakeside parking is available for an extra fee paid at the entrance.
- From Rte 5 & 20: At the major intersection with Rte 332 (Main St.), go North on Main St., Parrish Street will be the first left. Follow directions as listed above from Parrish St.
