ED Physician Recruitment Sheet
This position is split 40% administrative (salary Exempt) and 60% clinical (hourly).
Clinical responsibilities include the medical evaluation, treatment initiation and coordination of a follow-up treatment plan for Emergency Department patients. Provides high quality patient care in a caring and professional manner. In addition to working clinical shifts, the successful candidate will be administratively responsible for providing overall direction and oversight to ensure high quality medical care is provided to all patients in the Emergency Department (ED). Works in conjunction with other Clinical Chiefs and other Hospital departments to ensure effective delivery of various services within the department and a smooth transition of care from the ED to inpatient setting and for outpatients addresses their medical needs in a timely manner and arranges appropriate follow-up plans. Works with the ED Nurse Manager to ensure ED nursing and ED physician care are provided in an organized and coordinated manner. Fosters educational opportunities, staff selection and hiring, coaching and professional discipline. Responsible for assuring overall quality, safety, customer satisfaction and clinical practice within the service areas of responsibility. Monitors and assures compliance with departmental policies and procedures as well as outside regulatory requirements. Monitors and assures meeting budgeted financial plans for areas of responsibility.
Communicates effectively with medical, nursing and associate staff to accomplish departmental goals and objectives. Leadership of all areas of emergency department functioning including unifying highly educated professionals towards the goals of the hospital and department. Promotes effective utilization of resources to maximize departmental function. Demonstrates flexibility and innovation in prioritizing patient and department needs. Demonstrates expertise in budgeting, variance analysis, coding and reimbursement issues, conflict resolution and human resource management. Is an effective negotiator. Maintains and demonstrates knowledge base in all areas of Emergency Medicine including knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. Communicates effectively with staff, patients and families. Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.

Provides clinical family medicine services and associated administrative and on-call services to Thompson Family Practice patients.
Status: Full Time/Per Diem
Provides medical care on a continuous basis for non-assigned patients admitted to the hospitalist service and provides medical consultations on inpatients at the request of other specialties. Establishes and maintains good communication and working relationships with members of the hospitalist staff, nursing staff, case management and other hospital departments. Collaborates with referring primary care physicians. Accepts and manages patients in the Intensive Care Unit on the hospitalist service or on consultation. On-site coverage hours include weekdays and appropriate coverage on weekends. On-call coverage to be divided among the hospitalist service team. Works to promote the utilization of all Thompson Health services. The Hospitalist physician must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to adult patients served in a hospital inpatient setting. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and to the care needed. The physician must have knowledge of, and exhibit documentation within guidelines for, patient specific information for the medical record, daily charge sheets for visits, and prescriptive requisitions. Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with hospitalist staff, House Staff PAs/NPs, nursing staff, partnering physicians, case managers, medical specialists, management and administration. Exhibits leadership skills through active involvement in process improvements leading to delivery and maintenance of quality services while striving to achieve financial viability of the hospitalist program. Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system. Lives the CARES values at all times.
• Graduation from an accredited Medical School Required (M.D. or D.O.)
• Completion of Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine Required
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 Coding Preferred
• Maintains CME per requirements for Board Certification
