Over $7,500 was raised for the Margery Coughlin Pawluk Cancer Patient Needs Fund on June 13 at the Reservoir Creek Golf Club in Naples. The fund assists Sands Cancer Center patients and their families with the unexpected costs of a long illness by helping to provide for necessities such as groceries, gas, utilities and specialized medical needs.
The tournament began in 2005 to honor the memory of Margery Coughlin Pawluk, a nurse, mother and wife who lost her battle with cancer in 2004. Margery’s husband, Tom Pawluk, began the fund at Thompson knowing the struggles that families face with a long illness. The tournament has raised over $86,000 to date.
“Long illnesses are not just emotionally trying, but they are also financially challenging,” Tom said. “The golf tournament is a day of fun and laughter to raise money in an effort to help lessen the burden of the day-to-day expenses for Sands Cancer Center patients and their families.”
