Jane G. Hallstead, RN, MSN
Patient Education Coordinator/Diabetes Educator

A registered nurse with a master’s of science in nursing, Jane Hallstead became Thompson Health’s Patient Education Coordinator/Diabetes Educator in 2001, and also serves as coordinator of the Finger Lakes Diabetes Coalition, a subgroup of the New York State initiative on Diabetes Control and Prevention. In this role, she works with representatives from nine counties to provide diabetes education and programs to the community.

A tireless advocate for people with diabetes, Jane believes that when given the right tools, people can take control of the disease and live their lives to the fullest. She shares this message with patients on a one-on-one basis, as well as in her role as facilitator of Thompson Health’s monthly Diabetes Support Group, which meets the third Wednesday of every month.

In 2008, in the process of becoming a certified insulin pump trainer, Jane wore an insulin pump – using saline solution – for several days, and also pricked her finger three times a day to check her blood glucose levels. The experience, she says, gave her a true appreciation for the diligence with which diabetics must monitor their health.

A native of the Philippines, Jane worked at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center for several years, moving to Canandaigua in 1987 after marrying Dr. Geoffry Hallstead, a local dentist. The couple lives in a “green” house with their two children, and in her spare time, Jane enjoys walking, running, reading, baking and cooking.
