The Sands Cancer Center

Team of Experts

The Sands Cancer Center brings you the expertise of three of the region's most distinguished health care providers: Thompson Health, Strong Health, and Interlakes Oncology and Hematology, P.C.

Working with you and your family, our team takes a comprehensive holistic approach to your care and treatment. Our convenient location on the campus of Thompson Health means you can visit with several different specialists on the same day. These specialists, in turn, have easy access to one another, which ensures their ability to collaborate on your treatment plan, and to keep up to date on your progress. The result: better coordination of your care, within a very convenient setting.

Thompson Health
Thompson Health is an integrated health care delivery system founded in 1904 by Mary Clark Thompson and dedicated to the memory of her husband, Fredrick. This gift to the residents of Ontario County created a Legacy of Caring and a tradition of excellence in health care that continues today. Providing primary and secondary health care services with a respected medical staff of more than 250 physicians, Thompson Health continues to provide quality health care to more than 120,000 residents and their families in the Greater Finger Lakes Region.

Strong Health
Strong Health includes the 700-bed Strong Memorial Hospital, which serves as the regional trauma center and referral center for spinal cord injury, organ transplantation, burn care and other tertiary services. More than 900 primary care physicians and specialists are affiliated with Strong Health and are faculty members of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Interlakes Oncology and Hematology
Interlakes is a regional organization that provides treatment for cancer patients and those with blood disorders. It is committed to providing state of the art, compassionate care to patients as close to their homes as possible. The physicians and staff of Interlakes have been leaders in this community for over 20 years, first to bring innovative anticancer drugs, blood cell stimulants, anti-nausea medications and other new technology to this area. Interlakes offers the opportunity for eligible and willing patients to participate in dozens of studies through the upstate New York Cancer Research and Education Foundation.

Interlakes participates in a large array of drug studies and protocols on a national, as well as local level, including ECOG (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group). The physicians at Interlakes Oncology and Hematology, P.C. have been leaders in cancer care, performing the first bone marrow transplant in the greater Rochester area. Staff focus on the overall well being of the patient, providing support through their expertise and care.
