Chiropractic Care

The Body Mind Center

Chiropractors, also known as doctors of chiropractic medicine or chiropractic physicians, diagnose and treat patients whose health problems are associated with the body’s muscular, nervous and skeletal systems, especially the spine.  Chiropractors believe interference with these systems impairs normal functions and lowers resistance to disease. They also hold that spinal or vertebral dysfunction alters many important body functions by affecting the nervous system, and that skeletal imbalance through joint or articular dysfunction, especially in the spine, can cause pain.

The chiropractic approach to health care is holistic, stressing the patient’s overall health and wellness. It recognizes that many factors affect health, including exercise, diet, rest, environment, and heredity. Chiropractors use natural, drugless, non-surgical health treatments, and rely on the body’s inherent recuperative abilities. They also recommend lifestyle changes such as nutrition, exercise, and sleeping habits to their patients.

When appropriate, chiropractors consult with and refer patients to other health practitioners. Providers of acupuncture, physical therapy, massage therapy, and most importantly, your primary care physician, are regularly consulted for enhancement of overall health.

We “Strive for Five” when managing the problem that brought you to us. Please ask questions! We want everyone to fully understand the purpose and reason for our treatment plans.

You can expect the following from our doctors of chiropractic:

  1. Make the diagnosis - Determine the primary pain generator as being neurological, muscular or articular (joint).
  2. Manage the Pain -  Ice, heat, electric stimulation, manipulation, rest and supplements are examples of treatments used to reduce pain.
  3. Muscle Spasm - Improving circulation, performing deep tissue massage and restoring normal joint motion all help to improve normal function.
  4. Rehabilitation & Exercise - Stretching/strengthening exercises performed at home increase the likelihood of long-term benefits from treatment.
  5. Patient Education - Recognizing daily stresses that aggravate the patient’s condition and removing them; prevent future recurrences of musculoskeletal complaints.

About Chiropractors

Chiropractic is a “hands-on” form of treatment for several different patient complaints. By far, the most common complaint is low back and neck pain. Headaches, carpal tunnel and “pinched nerves” are other common problems.

Chiropractic care has existed for over 100 years. Chiropractors are the third largest healthcare provider after MDs and dentists.

Most insurances cover chiropractic care.  If you have questions about your coverage, please call your insurance provider or our office and we’d be happy to assist you.

When you visit our office, you may want to bring a pair of shorts or T-shirt to wear during the treatment so we can easily get to your area of concern.

Your first visit to the chiropractor will last about 45 minutes; follow-up treatments should last 20-30 minutes.
We encourage you to share your experiences in our office with your other health care practitioners.  Any time you have questions about what or why we are doing something, please ask!

We welcome you to our office and promise to provide the best service we can to you, your friends and family.
