Community members of all ages joined together at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park on June 20 for the 19th Annual Rose Walk. Raising over $22,000, the walk will benefit the Cardiac Rehabilitation Scholarship Fund at the Fralick Cardiac Rehabilitation and Fitness Center at UR Medicine’s Thompson Health. The center helps patients regain and maintain their physical health and sense of well-being following a cardiac event. The fund helps patients with the costs of participating in a cardiac rehabilitation program, which helps reduce the progression of heart disease and improve quality of life by increasing stamina and strength following a cardiac event.
Each year, the walk is dedicated to a person or persons who have had an impact on the cardiac rehabilitation center. This year’s event was in memory of Betty Dibble, a former cardiac rehabilitation volunteer. Previous honorees include Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero, John and Mary Allhusen, Jim and Ellie Fralick, Ted and Rosalie Fafinski, and Roy “Bud” Farnsworth, just to name a few.
Special thanks go to presenting sponsor Finger Lakes Cardiology Associates, and both platinum sponsors Pat and Len Malinowski, and the family of Kay Charron.
Next year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2016. Walkers may choose a 1-mile or 2-mile course, and all ages are welcome to participate. Join the cause and view the historic grounds of Mary Clark Thompson’s summer home.
