Procedure: Hip Replacements
“The whole team did a great job. Dr. Robert Meyer and Physician Assistant Kevin Stewart were very helpful and very friendly. Every time I notice how I no longer feel constant pain, I think about how I am forever grateful to Dr. Meyer and the team. They gave me my life back.”
Edie was in terrible pain for close to ten years. With the addition of what ended up being a bone spur, she could no longer even walk up her own lawn. Rather, she had to back up the lawn. She thought the pain was just arthritis and there wasn’t much to be done about it except to take various medicines to help control it.
When Edie decided she’d had enough, she went to Canandaigua Orthopaedic Associates and found out that the cartilage in her hips was virtually non-existent and the bones in the joint were rubbing against one another. The verdict was that she needed to have them both replaced. She had her first hip replacement surgery and was in the hospital for three days. It went so well, including the recovery, that she went back in three months to have the other one done.
When asked about the most memorable part of her experience, Edie was quick to comment that even though both of her legs “felt like lead” when she woke up after surgery, she was amazed that the minute she stood up, the first day after surgery, she could walk. She was so surprised that the pain was gone.
Edie’s advice to others is that you don’t have to live with the pain. It may not JUST be arthritis so you should get checked. Just think…you don’t have to give up doing your favorite activities! Edie’s favorites, you may ask? Why, skiing, sailing and tennis, of course!
