F. F. T H O M P S O N F O U N DAT I O N R E P O R T O N G I V I N G 2 014 11 A GIVING AND CARING SPIRIT My mother passed her giving and caring spirit on to me so that I can share it with others. Jean Seager a volunteer at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center honors her mothers memory by helping others. In January 2009 Jean Seagers mother Flora Fisher was admitted to the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center ultimately spending more than three years as a resident. During this time I visited my mother several times a week and got to know many of the staff caregivers and residents said Jean who was born in the original F.F. Thompson Hospital on North Main Street. As time went on I knew I wanted to support the Thompson Health Foundation and the Continuing Care Center to thank everyone for the care my mother received. Every year in memory of her mother Jean makes a financial contribution to the Continuing Care Center. My mother passed her giving and caring spirit on to me so that I can share it with others she said. But simply writing a check isnt enough for Jean a graduate of Naples Central School and a Xerox retiree. In April of 2012 I signed up to volunteer at the Continuing Care Center specifically in recreation therapy she said. Since that time I have looked forward to volunteering and sometimes wonder who gets the most out of my efforts the residents or me It really gives me a good feeling to be able to provide the support that I do. Jean assists at ceramics class and runs a weekly Convenience Cart where residents gather in the lobby for some camaraderie and laughter as they buy snacks and sundries. And of course I cannot forget about my volunteering at the wonderful annual holiday dinners bazaars and other fun activities for the residents and their families said Jean. They are special times for everyone. And every day I volunteer is a special day for me.
