Thompson Health Guild Awards Six Scholarships

CANANDAIGUA – The Thompson Health Guild awarded scholarships to six college-bound members of the class of 2025 at its Annual Dinner on May 22.

Each $2,000 scholarship went to a recipient majoring in a health-related field who must successfully complete their first college semester with the intent to continue in health care.

Members of the Guild’s Scholarship Committee honored the following during the dinner:

  • Jackson Farrington of Canandaigua Academy plans to major in biology at the University of Maine’s Honor College and one day become a physician.
  • Evan Lin of Geneva High School will attend Binghamton University and major in optometry with the goal of becoming an ophthalmologist.
  • Chloey Meldrum of Waterloo High School will be majoring in nursing at Finger Lakes Community College with plans to be a nurse practitioner.
  • Isabella Nellis of Honeoye High School will attend St. John Fisher University to become a pharmacist.
  • Brady O’Keefe of Livonia High School will attend Nazareth University to become a physical therapist.
  • Sydney Ross of Canandaigua Academy is headed to Binghamton University with plans to become a biomedical engineer/scientist.

The Thompson Health Guild is the auxiliary of UR Medicine Thompson Health, fundraising for the nonprofit organization to support capital campaigns; purchase medical equipment; and offer programs for hospital patients, nursing home residents, staff members and community members. Presenting the scholarships is one of the Guild’s annual traditions.

Also during its annual meeting, which was held at Thompson’s independent living community of Ferris Hills at West Lake, the Guild presented the F.F. Thompson Foundation with $40,000 to support a memory care unit planned for Ferris Hills’ enriched living community of Clark Meadows.
