CANANDAIGUA – In partnership with the Ontario County Safety Council and the American Red Cross, the Thompson Guild recently launched a new child safety program called ICE (In Case of Emergency).

At child safety seat checks throughout the county, Ontario County sheriff’s deputies and other certified car seat technicians are handing out sticker sets that were provided by the Guild. These stickers give peace of mind to parents who want to ensure that their children receive the best possible care in an emergency.

The sticker sets are also being distributed to new parents through The Birthing Center at Thompson Hospital.

One sticker, attached to the car seat, contains all of the child’s pertinent health information and can be used by first responders and hospital personnel when the driver of the car has been in an accident and is unable to communicate. The second sticker in the set is a bright yellow sticker that is affixed to the outside of the car window nearest the car seat to alert emergency responders that the information is available.

For a list of upcoming child safety seat checks, visit www.co.ontario.ny.us and click on the link to the left of the screen for the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office page. To schedule an appointment for a seat inspection, call the sheriff’s Civil Office at (585) 396-4666.

ICE materials may be obtained by contacting the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office at the above number or the Canandaigua Police Department at (585) 396-5035.
