Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in women and it’s largely preventable. In support of the American Heart Association’s “Go Red For Women” initiative, Friday, February 5, is “National Wear Red Day” and Thompson Health will hold a “Go Red For Women” community event from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua.


The event, hosted by Thompson’s Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation departments, will feature two presentations from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Thompson Conference Center, hospital ground floor: “Ten Steps to a Healthy Heart” by Bryan Henry, MD, Medical Director of Cardiology; and “My Story” by Ginger Zimmerman, artist, motivational speaker and heart transplant recipient.


In addition, the two departments will hold an open house, on the hospital’s 1st floor, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. that will include live music by the Seneca Soundwaves at 2 p.m., informative vendor displays, free blood pressure screenings, BMI determination and free information to find out if you are at risk for heart disease.


This event is free and open to the community regardless of if you have heart disease or have had a cardiac event. Participants are encouraged to wear something red. Call (585) 396-6670 with questions on the event.
