Dr. Laurie Sands & Constellation Brands Breast Imaging Center is now open.
Thompson’s mammography program is nationally accredited by the American College of Radiology and offers full-field digital mammography, mammographic and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies, as well as breast MRI.
Every Thompson patient receives tomosynthesis 3-D digital mammography! Mammograms work by sending x-rays through the breast tissue to obtain images. These pictures are then analyzed for abnormalities and assessed for changes from previous tests. To get the best images possible, the technologist needs to compress your breasts before taking images. Your breasts will be pressed between two special plates before x-rays are used to take the image. Tomosynthesis is used in conjunction with a standard 2-D screening mammogram, displaying images in stacks of thin slices and allowing our radiologists to view breast tissue millimeters at a time. This makes the tissue more visible and reduces the incidence of further testing to rule out abnormalities, plus can aid in finding breast cancers early, when they are more treatable.

Early detection is key and mammography can help detect a breast lump up to two years before it can be found manually. It's an important reason why you should schedule your mammogram today.
*You don't need a doctor's referral for a screening mammogram, and we'll even obtain any previous records for you if you simply provide us with the name of your current mammography office.
